Many years ago, my personal Instagram was accidentally deleted. And it made me pause and think about how much energy I was putting into platforms I didn’t own or control. Eventually, these thoughts inspired me to start blogging on this website when I began a 365-day photo challenge in 2022.
For over three years now, I’ve published one blog post a month (though most of my older posts have been archived), documenting what I’ve been learning in pursuit of becoming a more consistent photographer.
I started by sharing photo-heavy blogs, and slowly transitioned into roughly written posts before it finally became something more focused and intentional. The majority of my posts were written when no one was reading… when I was still trying to make sense of what I was doing/sharing. And still, I’m incredibly proud of the consistency and growth this space represents.
Blog writing has challenged me in ways academic writing and short-form content never did. My process is still messy, time-consuming, and deeply reflective, which I’ve come to appreciate.
However, over the past few months, I’ve noticed this blog starting to feel more like a distraction.
I started a monthly blog because I wanted something sustainable — a practice that could fit into my life without taking over.
But lately, something bigger is calling me, and I want to make space for it. There are ideas I want to pursue and resources I hope to create that I’ve tabled because I simply haven’t had the energy to bring them to life. Taking a pause will give me the space to focus on what I feel called to create next.
While I could continue blogging alongside this work as I’ve done in the past, something in my gut (a feeling I honor) is telling me it’s time to pivot and make some changes.
And for that reason, I’m pressing pause on my monthly blog for now. I’m not sure how long this pause will last (ideas are already swirling), but for now, my focus is shifting.
I’m excited to see what I can create when my attention is fully directed elsewhere.
